About the itemChristianity was adopted in the Ethiopian highlands of Africa as early as the 4th century, and since then, for over 1600 years Christian Ethiopians have worn neck crosses as a symbol of faith. Ethiopian silver crosses are usually named from the region that they originate (and our charms bear some of those names). Cross design is very diverse and varies from simplistic Greek or Latin shapes to more elaborate openwork, or abstracted forms. Our crosses are all cast from 19th century originals, collected over many years. Antique originals in good silver are now rare - high quality silver originals would have been cast in melted down old coin silver and had a high, pure metal content, and thus were useful as portable wealth, easily "cashed in" when the need came for money. Nowdays, crosses bought in Africa are often made of poor base metal mixed with nickel silver - some have beautiful designs, but their nickel content can cause allergies. Many of our clients have asked for old silver Ethiopian crosses, which we can no longer find, so we decided to cast our own from originals in our collection - and our "Lalibella" range is the result. Each one is cast in sterling silver and hallmarked by the Assay office. This is our Aksum cross which measures 45mm x 27mm.All our charms and pendants are suitable for our Rosa Necklaces, however some are in our opinion are probably too big for Rosa Bracelets. This pendant is suitable for Rosa Necklaces, or any other appropriate necklace, but we don't recommend it for bracelets.Dimensions:Length = 4.5cm (1.8 inches)Width = 2.7cm (1.1 inches)Weight = 10.4gStock Code: 40000867
